WHY Are BALD EAGLES NOT Really BALD!?!

Bald Eagles. I remember the first time as a child I was taken to the zoo and shown a Bald Eagle.
But where was it? The cage information definitely pointed to a Bald Eagle being in the cage, but the only birds I could see were quite obviously not bald.......
So why is a Bald Eagle called bald???
It originates from the term 'balded'. In the MIddle Ages, the term 'balded' actually meant 'white'. So originally it was a Balded or white headed eagle.
Later, over time, the word balded was shortened to the term bald.
So there you have it the not-so-bald-but-white-headed- eagle!
