It Doesn't Just Happen In The U.S!

OK, so most of the silly or downright ridiculous laws do come from the U.S., but they're certainly not the only ones in the world who have gone down this road. Here are some of the more ridiculous laws from other places around the world.
Italy
* All gondolas in Venice by law, must be painted black unless they belong to a high ranking official.
* It is illegal to practice the profession of charlantry.
* A man may be arrested for wearing a skirt.
* It is an offence for women of 'ill repute or evil looks' to enter a cheese factory in the area of Ferrara.
Scotland
* In dealing with certain crimes, you are presumed guilty until proven innocent.
* It is illegal to be a drunk while in possession of a cow.
* If someone knocks on your door and requires the use of your residence, you must let them enter.
* You may not fish on Sundays.
France
* It is illegal in Antibes to take photos of police officers or police vehicles, even if they are just in the background.
Lebanon
* Men are legally allowed to have sex with animals so long as the animals are female. It is illegal to have sex with a male animal.
China
* In Beijing - Drivers of motor vehicles who stop at pedestrian crossings are liable to a fine of up to five yuan, or a warning.
* You must be intelligent to go to college.
* You will have to pay a fine for having more than one child.
* Women are prohibited from walking around a hotel room in the nude. A woman may only be naked whilst in the bathroom.
Saudi Arabia
* There are two highways between Jiddah and Ryadh. One of them is for Muslims, the other is for "infidels".
* If a Muslim travelling between Jiddah and Ryadh is also accompanied by an "infidel", then they are both required to use the highway used by the "infidels".
Hong Kong
* A woman is legally allowed to kill her cheating husband, only if she uses her bare hands. The husband's lover however may be killed in any manner desired.

It's unbelievable, isn't it. The Chinese ones are good, although the sex with animals one made me giggle. If a man is deranged enough to want to fornicate with beasts then he's highly unlikely to wander around looking for a female one.

Some great ones there! I particularly like that in Lebannon a man can only have sex with female animals. Bestiality is one thing.....but homosexual bestiality...I think not!!

And believe me, these are the simple ones - there are some laws out there - one I remember involving IVF treatments in Italy which are so complex that I just can't compact the idiocy down into a few lines.
Tell me, which ones are you sceptical about you sceptic you (for some reason I now feel like daffy Duck!) and I'll see if I can give you a good source on them.

I did fin another site run by a guy in Shanghai where it was mentioned as "Drivers of power-driven vehicles who stop at pedestrian crossings are liable to a fine of up to five yuan, or a warning." - Article 40 of the Beijing Traffic Laws.

a few more to add here (though im not completely sure about their legitimacy). in france, it was once law that shopkeepers werent allowed to sell dolls that didnt have human faces and in venice, high heels were once illegal because of people falling into rivers and drowning.

ChrisM, I think I have heard of something like that before in China - actually I seem to recall that you're just not allowed to take photos of anything around Tianannmen Square, in particular, the square itself.

Doesn´t that, unfortunatly, seem to be the case in alot of countries?

This one made me laugh since here in sweden bestiality is perfectly legal as long as you don´t "physically hurt" the animal. Actually this happened not far from where I grew up. A man broke in to a barn and had sex with a pig and he only got charged for breaking and entering =)

When I first saw this law I thought.......... Really? In a city of skyscrappers if you jump off a building, it's most likely your teying to kill yourself..... But the thing to remember about all the weird laws you may find is that most of them are old and outdated and probably not enforced.
