- Of all flowers purchased, men are responsible for buying approximately 3/4.
- Men also buy the most chocolate.
- Men are also more likely to purchase Valentine’s Day gifts at the last minute (just like my neighbour who came home at 6pm tonight (13th) and told his wife he had to go out to 'buy a few things'. He wasn't too subtle either.
)- Women however, tend to shop up to two weeks earlier.
- About 1 billion Valentine's Day cards are exchanged in US each year. That's the largest seasonal card-sending occasion of the year, next to Christmas.
- Adults 35 and under send more humorous cards than any other age group.
- It is estimated that 10 million virtual Valentines day e-cards will be sent online this year.
- In the US Valentine's Day:
- Most cards are given to teachers.
- Parents receive 1 out of every 5 valentines.
- 3% of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets.
- Alexander Graham Bell applied for his patent on the telephone, an "Improvement in Telegraphy", on Valentine's Day, 1876.
