United Kingdom Car Registration Plates
April 10th 2008 10:52
Just a little something we noticed recently about car registration plates in the UK. They all have a white plate on the front of the car and a yellow on the back? Hmmm.....
You can also tell a lot about somebody's car from their licence plate over here - it's built into the numbers and lettering of the plates as to the year model of the car, the time of year it was originally registered at and the region the car was purchased.
How does this work you say? Well from 2001 onwards, the last digit of the year model is included in the plate, preceded by the time of year they were registered at. Registrations apparently happen at the start and later through the year, shown by either a '0' or a '5' - now I think it's '0' for March and a '5' for September, so you know that if you see a car that has '02" on it like ours, then you know it was manufactured in 2002 and registered at the start of that year.
It definitely makes checking out what your neighbour drives a little more interesting!
