Three Facts: Science and Space
May 3rd 2006 23:46
As promised, here come some fun, fun facts. Todays fun facts are science and space related, so here goes:
Fun Fact 1: Expanding Sun
Although a lot of people probably know this I have always wanted to prophecise the end of the world, so here goes.
All stars, including the sun follow an evolutionary path. That means that they burn all their fuel and then they expand to many times their current size. It will then be a red giant and this change will signal bad things for any remaining life on Earth (bad things like...extinction)
Fun Fact 2: Wobbly Pluto
MVEMJSUNP - I was taught to remember each of these letters as a word in a sentence (my very elderly mother just...something, something, something) and this in fact represents the planets in order from the sun (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto)
But because Pluto's orbit is so wacked it means that in reality it is sometimes closer to the sun than Neptune. To any school kids who read this, I suggest you don't bother memorising the order. Afterall, who cares if it's just going to go and change?
Fun Fact 3: Giant Jupiter
Jupiter, the solar systems largest planet, is more than 2 times larger than all the other planets combined. That is incredibly large...I wonder if it ever considers any of the fad diets that seem so popular these days...?
Well there we go, a much more facts oriented post.

There's also this planet that spins so fast that it has a magnetic field, forgot which, Uranus?
Really crazy stuff.

Everything I've read suggests this is probably because of motion at a shallow level on the planet.
But then...it is possible I'm wrong...
