The Thinker? Not Really!
September 16th 2008 09:33
When the sculptor Rodin created his fine piece of work titled "The Thinker", it wasn't at all the name he gave to it!
Originally, Rodin modelled the sculpture on Dante, author of 'The Divine Comedy' as he contemplated the associated Gates of Hell from the piece.
However, one art critic, knowing very liittle of Dante's work, kept calling it 'The Thinker'. The name eventually became known as the title of the sculpture and like rumour, spread!
Now there's something to think about!
