SQUATTING For The OLYMPICS!!!

March 27th 2008 01:10
Going to the Beijing Olympics? Well it might be standing squatting room only for those availing themselves of one of the the most unpleasant, but extremeley necessary evils.

toilet
I'm talking toilets! Yes again with another toilet tale, and no, I don't have some sort of weird toilet fetish. (Although I'm sure you were just hoping for one. )

While in the Western world it is quite normal to expect a receptacle upon which, one can perch, but in Eastern areas including China, the squat method is used, so the equipment needed to position yourself on is completely unnecessary.

Which of course presents some problems with the Beijing Olympics which begins later on this year. The organisers of the event have received numerous complaints about the lack of sitting facilities provided, especially after the San Diego Padres played the Los Angeles Dodgers at the new Olympic baseball venue.

As it is considered impossible, not to mention a royal pain, to change every toilet, organisers are focussing on the satisfaction only of the athletes, journalists and VIP's.

Although with Beijing expecting about 500,000 foreigners to attend, 3 of the venues - the 91,000-seat "Bird's Nest" National Stadium, the "Water Cube" and the National Indoor Stadium, are expected to have "Western-style" conveniences.

Ive use the squatting "toilets" in Hong Kong. Or should I say I saw it at the mall and quickly got constipated and held it till I got back to my hotel about an hour later. Those were THE MOST DISGUSTING things I have ever seen in my LIFE! They dont get flushed and are completely unsanitary. In a popular mall you would think that a modern convenience such as a toilet would be everywhere and that the quat method is ancient history. The Beijing Olympics will be insulting many nations by not providing proper relief items.

its THEIR country not ours so i find it disrespectful to their culture to expect something that they dont have. if we hosted the oympics would we have to install squatting toilets?

That last post is a very interesting point.

We always expect people to speak english when they come to our country, but when we go over there we still expect them to speak english to us!

I think that Dane Cook made a point when he said "America is the greatest country on earth, but we get a little cocky."

When someone comes to your home where you are the host, dont you put out the good towels and use the good dishes? Yes, that is their country but they are hosting MANY other nations. Putting in regular facilities along w/ the squatting, brick lined holes should not be a problem. Its just like putting out the good china ware. Or the good towels. China is rich in tradition but that is one tradition that needs to stay w/in the home residence only and not in the public. Do you want someone looking at YOUR feces or do you want to look at someone elses? Thats exactly what the squatting holes do. Like I said before, they dont get flushed and are very unsanitary.

I think what Kayla said was right. We expect a lot from other people "outsiders" if you will when it comes to what we want and expect. We as Americans are not really a humble people, sometimes I think our liberty makes us act like kings, when really we are not better but different! Dane Cook was right we get a little cocky because of how fast we have grown and because all the freedoms we have but we have to remember that other countries and people do things in different ways that we don't necessarily agree with but we need to respect.

We do that with the people close to us too. But you wouldn't go over to your neighbors house and say, get a different toilet, I don't like that one! They own that house and it is up to them what they do with it. If someone said something about the way I keep my house or belongings I would tell them if they don't like it, get the **** out~! Nobody made you come here. We also have to remember that no one is truly from America and no one can truly claim it....unless your Native American~! We are all visitors in some respects!
