Prizes For Not Visiting Brothels
December 28th 2006 01:25
Now here's something a little different!
According to Reuters, the South Korean Government has started up a prize incentive to encourage men to not visit brothels during this holiday season.
Posted on the internet by the Ministry of Gender Equality was the line, "If you promise yourself to make it a healthy night out at the end of the year, and if you recommend this to others, we are giving lots of prizes."
Companies who can get their employees to agree to not to buying sex during what is expected to be another typically alcohol-soaked festive season will be awarded cash.
The Korea Times was told by a ministry official that: "Korean corporate culture that includes heavy drinking is also what makes buying sex acceptable as a way for male-bonding, which is proving to be a hard-to-break ritual."
Movie tickets are being given out to companies who have a large number of employees who agree to the program, and there is also a prize of 1 million won ($1365) for the company with the most employees in the campaign.
A number of South Korean men thought it was a waste of money and didn't like the idea of giving everyone the impression that South Korean men are well known for being unable to control their urges and are largely visiting prostitutes.
Are the companies planning on policing this, or maybe the ministry itself? ; )
