Many people these days place personal ads to attract a new love or partner/partners, especially now with the wide availability of the internet. As a result acronyms are being used more and more often to describe either themselves or the person/people they're looking for.

However not everyone understands what these acronyms really stand for.

Just to give you a general idea, here is a list of the more commonly used terms:

* B & D or B/D: Bondage and Discipline
* BB: Body-builder
* BDSM: Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, Sadism and Masochism
* BF: Black Female, or Boyfriend
* Bi: Bisexual
* BiF: Bisexual Female
* BiM: Bisexual Male
* CD: Cross Dresser
* DTE: Down-to-earth
* DWF: Divorced White Female
* DWM: Divorced White Male
* FWB: Friend With Benefits (friendship plus sex)

* Het: Heterosexual
* HWP: Height Weight Proportional: (body weight-wise)
* IRL: In Real Life: face to face meeting
* ISO: In Search Of
* LTR: Long Term Relationship (opposite of NSA)
* M4M: Man seeking man
* M4MW: Man seeking man and woman
* M4W: Man seeking woman
* MW4M: Man and woman seeking man
* MW4MW: Man and woman seeking man and woman
* MW4W: Man and woman seeking woman
* MWC: Married White Couple
* NS: Non-Smoking
* NSA: No Strings Attached (opposite of LTR)

* S&M or S/M: Sadomasochism

* SAE: Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
* SASE: Self Addressed Stamped Envelope
* SBF: Single Black Female
* SBM: Single Black Male
* SBiF: Single Bisexual Female
* SBiM: Single Bisexual Male
* SWF: Single White Female
* SWM: Single White Male
* SWNS: Sex With No Strings
* SWS: Sex Without Strings
* Str8: Straight

* TG: Transgendered person
* TS: Transsexual person, typically male-to-female
* TV: Transvestite person
* TLC: Tender Loving Care
* TYVM: Thank You Very Much
* VGL: Very Good Looking
* W/E: Well Endowed: larger than average male organ
* W/S: Watersports
* W4M: Woman seeking man
* W4MW: Woman seeking man and woman
* W4W: Woman seeking woman
* WLTM: Would Like To Meet

Crikey, that's a lot of acronyms!!!

Gee whatever happened to the simple ones NS - non smoker and SWF with a GSH (good sense of humour).

Now you're a SWF TS ISO LTR and BDSM (ouch!)
