How To Discover Who Really Loves You

February 8th 2007 00:25
coffin
A millionaire living in Florida many years ago was trying to work out the best way to bequeath his estate in his will when an idea struck him ( No, that's not what killed him! ; ) )

Working in collaboration with his lawyer, he had his lawyer contact his family to tell them that he had passed away while out yachting and then staged a fake funeral.

Samuel Geister then crept into the back of the funeral service to see what had resulted. Speaking to one of the undertakers as to the proceedings he discovered that one son had come in late from the golf course, still in golfing attire,, the second son was home with a hangover and the third son had sent his butler. His only daughter had apparently left on a holiday.

He then paid close attention to the front of the service where he saw his 14 year old grand-daughter dressed in black and crying.

A new will was drawn up that afternoon - no prizes for guessing who was going to eventually inherit his estate.

Do you reckon anyone's family would actually act like that? I mean, a funeral deserves respect, whether or not you love the guy, don't you think?
But I agree, it is cute. Lucky grand daughter!

Hi Melissa,

Looks like he had reason to be a little paranoid! At least someone loved him - unless the granddaughter was onto him of course!

Hi Mel...

Hmm...maybe the children know something about Samuel Geister Esquire that the granddaughter doesn't...because why else the need to find out who loves him?

Of course the children could just be a bunch of selfish a**holes.

Sigh...the world is full of Original Cynics...

Hope you're well Mel.

Hi MelissaA,

Another great post!

The story is great and reminds me of a movie I once saw, called Greed, starring Kurt Douglas and (was it) Michael J Fox? Not sure but it is a funny film and runs along these same lines...

Money changes people, especially if it is a large inheritance. I"ve seen it with my own eyes...

Poor Samuel, how lonely to be a No Soul-Own All and not know who loves you...

I love that story! Though you wonder what kind of man old grandpa was to make the kids care so little. But I'm not focusing on that. That's a way cute story.

Great post

Then again, in a family where mind games ar ethe norm one quickly learns how to sublimate and hide one's true feelings.

A simpler test: Call someone at 3:00am, tell them something bad has happened... and that you need their help to hide a body. That will tell you how much they care about you.

There are so many angles to this one.

I think in some way I agree with Francis - do a different sort of test, quick and easy like ringing them at 3am.

The reason I say this, your scenario Francis is not entirely off the mark - I once rang a family member at 1am with a dire emergency involving hospitalisation, and they not only wouldn't help, but blamed me for the reason they didn't get back to sleep that night! *rollseyes*. I can honestly tell you, that person is not in MY will. ; )

Hey Mel, I reckon wills shouldn't only be a question of who loves you. They should more be a question of who you love.
