Fun Facts on Japan

Fun Japanese Facts?

Well, here you go

Japan has an incredibly high rate of smokers (about 60%), and cigarettes can be bought in venidng machines which can be found all over the place.

Apparantely the japanese word for four and death are the same. I wonder if the language works like English, because if so: "he is four" could have some unfortunate missinterpretations

Also, it seems that Japan has three systems of writing: kanji, hiragana, and katakana. I think they are all used for different things.

Are you sure it's not in Chinese where the words four and die/death sound the same and not Japanese?

Well according to:

http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/health/HealthRepublish_1004497.htm

"The Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese word for "four" sounds very like the word for "death"."

So it sounds like both are true. At least if you consider that source to be reliable.

There are four forms of writing--Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana, and Romanji. Alsom the pronounciation of "four" and "death" are slightly different. However, the number four is considered very unlucky.

There are two Japanese word for 4: Shi and yon. Shi also means death, although the two words are written differently; the pronounciation, however, is identical.
The Japanese word for "9", kuu, also means "sorrow". That's why there are no rooms number 4 or 9 in Japanese hospitals or hotels.

Your text goes hereYour text goes here I actully went to Japan about five days ago and the numbers four and death are the same, which is shi, pronounced as "she". But sometimes when speaking, instead of using shi for four, they will say "yo" which also means four in Japanesse.

Damn you people are idiots.

I live in Japan. Here's some clarification -

The numbers are

ichi - 1
ni -
san -
yon / shi - 4
go -

Four has two meanings - I don't know why, but "shi" comes from the verb "shinu", which means, "to die". Yes, they know it.

There are three writing systems - the kanji, which are chinese characters, hiragana, which are phonetic symbols (a bit like the ABC) and kanakana, which are different symbols for the same phonetics and are used for foreign words

I don't know how many people smoke, but its a lot. Vending machines are every bloody where, and mostly sell soft drinks like tea, coke, coffee. There are also beer and cig vendors, mostly outside convenience stores. Cigs are real cheap, about 2 quid a packet, and they don't have all the non-smoking laws that the UK does.

Pokemon stands for Pocket Monsters, which is what they call it out here.

Laters, douche bags.
