Frog Dissection For Christmas
November 28th 2006 00:25
According to Reuters, many shoppers in the U.S. were dismayed to stumble across frog dissection kit amongst the suggested Christmas presents this year.
Apparently at an upscale store in the trendy Soho district, they were selling the $40 kits ($A51) , complete with "vacuum-sealed formaldehyde-treated frog", next to "$775 ($A1005) leather file cases and $145 ($A188) Italian calfskin passport holders."
Many people complained, leading to the store, which had only sold a small number of kits, to clear the shelves while preparing to issue an apology.
"The intent was to celebrate science and biology, present something educational for children and adults."
An animal campaign group stated that they were" shocked to discover that the dissection kit contains the carcass of a real frog."
Oh my goodness, a real frog in a frog dissection kit. Whatever will they think of next!
Maybe us Aussies should start up with selling Cane Toad Dissection Kits, I'd like to see somebody tell us that they're good for our environment and that it would be inhumane for us to polish them off! ; )
I'm sure my kids would just love the idea of dissecting a cane toad for Christmas, and we're not even Banana Benders.

We used to live in the Northern Territory and one of the favourite passtimes of people up there seemed to consist of squashing as many cane toads as they possibly could while driving, as many of those lovely creatures used to hang about on the roads at night.
Personally, I think it's good to see some inventive Christmas pressies around, however I don't think I'll be forking out my hard earned money for a dead frog and very sharp knife. Seems a bit of a waste of money to me.
Then again, it would keep my two little terrors quiet for a while (at least until my son chops his sister's finger off)...
