Basset Hounds can't swim.

Whippets can reach a maximum speed of 57 kilometres per hour (35.5 miles).

The greyhound however, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica, can attain a speed of about 72 kilometres per hour (45 miles).

Dalmations are named for the Croatian principality of Dalmatia, their original home.

Dalmatian puppies are born with pure white fur - they have no spots at all until they are at the very least a week old and most of the time a few weeks after that.

Historically, the reason the aristocracy preferred to have small sized dogs was because they would put the dog under the bedcovers before retiring so that all of the fleas and other bedbugs would go onto the dog instead of themselves!

Mixed bred dogs however usually have mixed, mostly unknown lineage. They are also lucky enough to suffer less from the inherited diseases and disabilities associated with certain purebred strains.
