Do we REALLY NEED To Drink 2 LITRES Of WATER A DAY???

November 23rd 2008 12:19
drinking tap water
OK, they say we need to drink 2 litres of water a day to help keep our bodies healthy, but how much truth is there to this really apart from the true fact that you'd constantly be going to the loo?

It turns out it's another one of those cases of Chinese Whispers.

During the 1940's it was discovered that for a healthy body, we as humans need to ingest a quantity of 2 litres of fluid a day, which can include the fluids found in food as well as other drinks.

Somewhere along the line, in Chinese Whisper style, this turned into 2 litres of water a day, which isn't actually necessary, provided you get your total amount of fluids through water and other sources.

Unless you are running a marathon or sweating profusely, two litres is a ridiculous amount to srink. the best guage of whether or not you are getting sufficient liquid is if your urine is clear. If it is, you're getting plenty.

i live in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, India

the temprature here in summer is 49° Celcius (maximum recorded)

and average of 45° Celcius

its a highly populated place and i need to drink 2 litres of water every three hours, (even while resting)

if not the body loses its temprature control and we get fever, also the loss of water is so much that we feel severe pain while urination for 8 ~10 hours (belive me this hurts like hell, yes you feel burn in penis/vagina)

the scarcity of water is at this place is decreased by the drinking water pouches sold everywhere (200 ml @ 0.1$ each)
