Santa Claus/ Father Christmas/ St Nicholas/ Kris Kringle, whatever name you call him, this is one man of which it can be said he has many names.

Depending on the country you're in, he could very well be called more than one name. In Australia he's usually referred to as Santa Claus, but occasionally other names pop up.


The same can be said of the U.S and Canada.

The UK also can use a variety of names, but the main one is Father Christmas.

In Costa Rica, Colombia, and parts of Mexico, the gift bearer is el Niño Jesus, "the infant Jesus."

In Brazil, Spain and Peru, he's called Papa Noel.


In Italy he is known as Babbo Natale.


In China, he is called Shengdan Laoren.

In France, he's known as Pere Noel.


In Germany, he is known as either Christindl, or the Christ Child.


In Morocco he is known as Black Peter.

In Japan, he is is called Santa Claus or "Santa No Ojisan," meaning "Uncle Santa."


Jultomten visits the children of Sweden, while På Norsk or "Julenissen" visits those in Norway.


In the Netherlands, he is called Kerstman.

In Finland, he is called Joulupukki.


The Dutch call him Sinter KlaasHe.


In Russia, he is called Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost).


The name Kris Kringle which is also used by some countries, comes from the German term for the Christ Child.

The youngest authenticated mother is Lina Medina, who delivered a 6½-pound boy by caesarean section in Lima, Peru in 1939, at an age of 5 years and 7 months. The child was raised as her brother and only discovered that Lina was his mother when he was 10.


Bobbie McCaughey is the mother who holds the record for the most surviving children from a single birth. She gave birth to the first set of surviving septuplets - 4 boys and 3 girls on November 19, 1997, at the University Hospital, Iowa, US. Conceived by in vitro fertilization, the babies were delivered after 31 weeks by caesarean in the space of 16 minutes. The babies are named Kenneth, Nathaniel, Brandon, Joel, Kelsey, Natalie and Alexis.

We're all familiar with the popular concept of the floating bathtub toy known as the Rubber Duck, although these days some ducks are too hoity-toity for simple bath time fun as discussed in a previous post about quirky Valentine's Day gifts.
