best movies 2009
The UK's Times Online like to make predictions on what they imagine will be the biggest movie hits of the upcoming year. By their estimation, here is a small selection of their choices for the top 50 in 2009.

47: Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, where again the museum will spring to life at night, this time without the liveliness of Robin Williams but still involving Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson and Ricky Gervais.

46: Fast & Furious - 3 or 4 depending on how you look at it, as although it will be the 4th movie in the series, the storyline fits into the plotline of the series earlier, much in the way that Starwars went 'backwards'

43: Knowing - A teacher (Nicolas Cage) opens a time capsule dug up from his son's school containing some chilling predictions of which some that have already come to pass and others yet to occur. You can view the trailer HERE.

42: Them - directed by Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz’s Edgar Wright, which really says it all. Involves ants, government conspiracies, and possibly more ants.

39: Planet 51 - A twist on the old "alien arrives in a small, scared, town community." The 'alien' is actually an astronaut from Earth, and the small town folk are little green men. Animated.

38: The Box Set - the story of a young married couple who are given a mysterious box that has deadly powers.

And just for Horrorphile writer Bryn.

35: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans which is actually a prequel, to the series.
Bryn may also be interested in the remake of the Creature from the Black Lagoon which comes in at 36 and The Wolfman at number 30.

34: Fanboys - Comedy about a group of rabid Star Wars fans attempting to steal an early print of The Phantom Menace for their friend before he dies of cancer.

Inkheart book novel cover
33: Inkheart (they better not screw this up from the book!) where Brendan Fraser plays a father who when he reads aloud, can make the characters of the book come to life and out of the book.

22: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs - Manny, Sid and co. discover a lost world of surviving, but trapped. dinosaurs.

20: Bride Wars - best friends clash on wedding day scheduling. Includes Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway and Candice Bergen. Trailer.

18: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - about a man born old and aging in reverse.

17: The Lovely Bones - I'm not sure how closely this will follow the book, but it's intent is to be thought provoking. Directed by Peter Jackson.

16: The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - a Terry Gilliam film bound to be unpredictable and containing the final, unfinished performance of Heath Ledger.

15: Coraline - based on Neil Gaiman’s work. Great for fans of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. Trailer

10: Inglourious Basterds - a Quentin Tarantino film set in WW2.

9: Terminator Salvation - from the Terminator series. Depicts the future war mentioned in previous films.

8: Monsters vs. Aliens - Another Dreamworks animated film in the style of The Incredibles. Watch trailer HERE.

7: Avatar - Another alien work of James Cameron - you can see the trailer HERE.

6: Angels & Demons - Another of Dan Brown of Da Vinci Code fame's novels, also including Ewan McGregor.

5: X-Men Origins: Wolverine - The earlier life of Logan shown in a prequel set 17 years before the happenings of the 1st movie.

4: Watchmen - another comic book come to life. The trailer is worth watching for the Smashing Pumpkins soundtrack alone.

3: Star Trek - The story before the scenes of the first TV series.

2: Public Enemies - An FBI gangster huntdown.

And last, but certainly not least where the younger, (and some of the much older crowd) are concerned.
Harry Potter and the half*blood prince

1: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - the 6th film in the Harry Potter Series.

Chicken Hatching - LIVE!

chicks
Watching chickens hatch out of their small cramped living space can be a fascinating thing to watch.

While over here visiting the UK and looking at primary schools, I've stumbled across one school in particular who has, along with another school, purchased an incubator and is currently hatching out eggs.

We're all familiar with the popular concept of the floating bathtub toy known as the Rubber Duck, although these days some ducks are too hoity-toity for simple bath time fun as discussed in a previous post about quirky Valentine's Day gifts.

A POX On All CHICKENS!

April 17th 2007 00:15
chicken pox
OK, so chickens aren't actually responsible for causing chicken pox, but if I find the little bugger chicken who gave my eldest the dreadful pox I'll wring his/her scrawny neck!

As for why it's called chicken pox? I'll get to that a bit later.
