What's That I Smell???

February 8th 2010 22:00
flaming fart
In 1993, a Sydney nutritionist and his partner conducted a survey to find out who farts the most - Australian men or Australian women.

The results were overwhelming, in more than one way I'd imagine, as it was proven that not only did the men have more Thunder Downunder, but theirs also smelt the worst!

The participants also kept a daily diary on their eating habits, proving also that the well known opinion that fibre, in particular baked beans, was responsible for more than its fair share of emissive gases, although they were unable to provide a link between flatulence and beer intake.

Yesterday while setting up the lesson on lamingtons, I began thinking back to my younger days and the tune of "Football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars."

I couldn't remember what is what for exactly as I was pretty young at the time, but thanks to the wondrous combination of the Internet and YouTube, I was able to refresh my memory. It was the jingle used to sell GM Holdens during the 70's (showing my age now aren't I!), and it's stuck with me ever since.

Hurray! I Can Post Again!

November 5th 2008 09:48
Of course I am able to post again now! Because now I am unwell, complete with dizziness which is hardly conducive to sitting at a computer typing! Murphy's law or what!

pc stress
I tried to post while I was off on my little holiday jaunt back home to Australia, but for some reason kept encountering technical errors with my login. Got back home, thought all would be OK, and had the same problems for a little while. But now that I have access back to this computer (temporarily) it all seems like it never happened - apart from the gaping hole in the blog that is.

Following in the footsteps of the global credit crisis which has affected Australia, the U.S. and U.K., uncertainty has now hit the Japanese markets.

In the last 7 days the Origami Bank has folded, the Sumo Bank has gone belly up and the Bonsai Bank has announced major plans to cut some of its branches.

Vehicle Registration Tax Disc Excuses

October 1st 2008 14:12
OK so I'm guessing that the UK vehicle Tax Disc system is akin to the Aussie vehicle registration system although the similarities with the system (other than the MOT=Pink slip) ends there.

So while I pull my hair out waiting for my insurance certificate to arrive which I need to get the disc, which by the way they promised to send me guaranteed, to arrive on the last day of my tax disc's validity, and didn't arrive, I thought I'd have another trawl through the DVLA website or RTA equivalent.

The Questions People Ask!

July 16th 2008 10:30

Having been asked the other day whether we, as Australians, live in actual houses? (As opposed to what I don't know - tents perhaps???) I've decided to list some of the most common questions asked by visitors to Australia as were pointed out recently by one of our tourism websites.

Q: Does it ever get windy in Australia? I've never seen it rain on TV. How do your plants grow? (UK)

With so many people living all over the world and with so much of our planet consisting of water, if you had to make a guess at the world time zone in which most people live, where do you imagine it would be?
World map free

You not only have to balance out water and land versus population, but also where those populations actually exist, that is to say that while it's fine to say that Australia only has 21 million people as the Australian Bureau of Statistics is now claiming, the majority live along the coastal areas due to the inhospitable nature of Australia's arid interior.

Still On Hiatus

November 5th 2007 10:47
Hi all, thanks to our internet provider who has not been providing internet, our temporary hiatus has become much longer than expected. I've managed to squeeze a few moments out of somebody else's internet for this post, but I won't have much more for at the earliest half a week, but hopefully by this time next week at least.

So the facts I give today will be a brief fun-down of where we're at personally.

Forget strip poker! This competition has blown it way out of the water with the prizes it's giving away.

For the winner of the supposedly family friendly National Poker League competition in Geelong, the prize is a voucher for a 30-minute session at a brothel. The runner-up meanwhile receives a free lap dance.

I'm sure most (if not all) of you have cottoned onto the real story behind yesterdays post. Indeed there is nothing actually wrong with the skywalk. (Yes, it is real the only fabrication was the closing down again part.) So after yesterdays post I thought enlighten you with some other April fools day pranks of the past.

* The Guardian printed a supplement in 1977 praising the location of a fictional resort - San Serriffe, its two main islands (Upper Caisse and Lower Caisse), its capital (Bodoni), and its leader (General Pica). Intrigued readers were later disappointed to learn that San Serriffe (sans serif) did not exist except as references to typeface terminology.
