Christmas Turkeys & Christmas Dinners
December 14th 2007 00:05
In both the United Kingdom and the United States of America, turkeys are the currently the main choice for Christmas dinner.
In fact, before turkeys became popular in the UK, it was the custom to eat goose. Then during one particular Christmas, British monarch Henry VIII decided to try a turkey dinner.
Now, approximately 93 per cent of the population in the UK will eat turkey on Christmas Day which results in about 11 million turkeys being cooked! The percentage for the US is also very similar.
Of course in Australia, the only turkey provided is usually eaten cold due to the hot summer weather, and not much turkey is eaten at that. Usually cold meats such as ham and pork are the more favoured traditional meats, along with prawns and barbecued meats.
