Vile Vehicle Or Simply Coincidence
July 8th 2007 00:01
A young and upcoming actor at the time, James Dean while driving his Porsche Spyder was killed in a fatal car accident on September 30th, 1955. A strange string of coincidences have surrounded the car ever since.
After buying the car Dean had introduced himself to Alec Guinness and asked him to take a look at the Spyder. Guinness thought the car appeared "sinister" and told Dean: "If you get in that car you will be found dead in it by this time next week." This conversation reportedly occurred on September 23, 1955.
The car was towed away from the accident scene and taken to a garage. Whilst at the garage the engine slipped out and fell onto a mechanic, shattering both of his legs.
Two young would-be thieves were injured while attempting to steal parts from the car. One tried to steal the steering wheel but his arm ripped open on a piece of jagged metal. Later, another man was injured while trying to steal the bloodstained front seat.
The engine was eventually sold off to a doctor, who put it into his racing car. Shortly afterwards during a race he also died.
Also in the same race, another driver was killed in his car. His car had James Dean's driveshaft fitted to it.
James Dean's Porsche was later repaired, and the garage it was in was destroyed by fire.
The car was displayed in Sacramento later on, but it fell off it's mount and broke the hip of a teenager.
Meanwhile later in Oregon, the trailer carrying the car came away from it's towbar and smashed through the front of a shop.
Finally, in 1959, the car mysteriously broke into 11 pieces while sitting on steel supports.
